The Real Estate Management Division is responsible for the lease, sale and management of approximately 726,000 acres of trust land. Activities such as ranching, farming, hunting and recreation are a few examples of how school land is utilized across the state. The payments received from land leases are distributed monthly to beneficiaries statewide.

The Commissioners of the Land Office has approximately 5,500 acres of land under commercial lease. The commercial leases have substantially increased income, which has allowed for significant increases in distributions to beneficiaries.

Special Use Leasing
Many of the land leases offered by the Commissioners of the Land Office have special uses including renewable energy, mining and recreational use. Leases for solar and wind power production as well as sand and gravel mining are done through commercial leases. Hunting and recreational uses are included in agricultural leases.
